Default Remove Front Wheel 2009 FXDC

I have a flat front tire on my 2009 FXDC which I plan to fix later this week. I have ordered a service manual (today), but won’t have it before I fix the flat. I have researched as many old discussions as I could find on removing the front wheel and have printed out a really good write up by rdondes back in 2009 on a 2007 FXDC. I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.

Are the instructions and details for removing the front wheel on my 2009 the same as a 2007? If so, most or all of my questions are answered in rdondes write-up.

I believe the torque setting on the axel nut of my 2009 is 50-55 ft lb, can someone confirm?

The axel cap is held on by two small round head bolts. I believe they are 5mm hex and the torque setting is 10 – 14 ft lb. Can anyone tell me if this is correct?

I read in rdondes write-up and several other discussions that you should replace the axel cap bolts with a ss bolts, as that is a weak piece. Anyone else agree or disagree anyother thoughts on this?

Thanks for any advice or information you can share. Emmo

My 2012 manual calls for the axle nut to be torqued to 62 to 67 ft lbs. And the cap screws to 132 to 180 inch lbs. Keep in mind my is a 2012, but I wouldn't think it would be any different. I would put a drop of blue Loctite on the cap screws.

Thanks Jeff. In your manual the axel nut is a little higher then I was finding, but the cap bolts calculate to the same. Does your service manual indicate a 5mm bolt for the axel cap?
