Switchback suspenion

Switchback suspenion
Greetings,
Picked up an FLD this past Oct and would like to make the suspension better.
Some questions....
I believe the stock height of the rear shocks is 12". Anyone know the max height that I could run aftermarket shocks? Thinking of going w/ 12.5" - 13" to get a little better cornering clearance.
Fork - What is the fork width of the FLD? I'm pretty sure current Dynas are 49mm, but I think the FLD's are smaller diameter? Looking to get Intimidators and Traxxion single rate springs w/ heavier fork oil.

I thought all the current dyna's had 49mm forks. I have 12.5" shocks (my stock were 12") and love it. Some here have 13 and even 13.5. 12.5 isin't noticible for looks but for some reason the 13" is really noticiable.
If you go with traxxion and intimidators, the last thing you want to do is put in heavier oil.

Mine's a Street Bob, but the shock info applies. I'm using 13.25" shocks without any issues. Some guys even run 14" Ohlins shocks.
The 49mm measurement is the tube diameter and yours is 49mm like all modern Dynas. I love my Traxxion/Ricor setup. Suspension transformed the bike.
Good luck.

I stand corrected. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motor...Switchback.htm
This says they are 41.3mm, but it also says they are cartridge-type forks. Hmmm.

Switchback forks are different that the rest of the Dyna Family. Bel Ray 10w synthetic works wonders. If you need it a little firmer, make up some spacers out of PVC. Get some PVC pipe the same diameter as the springs. Remove the fork cap and drop the spacer in. Push down and reinstall the cap. Start with 1/2" and work up to 1". Do 1 set of shims at a time, then test ride. As for the rear shocks, I would suggest looking for some Street Glide air shock take offs. Ya don't have to spend big bucks to improve your riding comfort.

I went the racetech flat-wound fork springs and kept the stock single (yep, only has a cartridge in one fork) cartridge in there.
Day and night difference.
Unless you are set on the traxxion, I would at least call racetech and check out their system too. They have a double cartridge system for the switchy called gold emulators. Total parts for springs and emulators is about $300. I think the springs alone were about $125.
Speaking from personal experience in regard to the fld application, it's a good one.
