I am trying to put a different gas tank on my 2003 FXD. I don't like the look of the stock tank(especially with the fuel gauge and tank panel), so I'm trying to go with a smooth top.
I ordered a tank from Cruiser Customizer ( http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/bi...part/BC-011639 )made by Bikers Choice, and it left a gap between the tank and seat.

Anyone ran into this issue or found a smooth top, stretched tank that fits well against the seat?? Tryin to get the scooter ready for spring!!

 

get some poster board and cut a template to fill the gap then take the template and the tank to your local bodyshop/metal shop and have them weld in a filler plate might cost $50 but worth it in the end if you've already got the tank

 

what color combo is your stock tank? I might be interested if you're looking to sell it.

Oh, and I agree with NSCoyote. I did the same thing on my son's Honda Scrambler. Filled the gap.




I don't think I've take any pics after it was done, but it made all the difference in the world

 

The cardboard template is a pretty good idea. Ticks me off the website said it would fit, but I guess that's the gamble ya take. I'll take a look at it this weekend and post a couple more pics of the progress.

And the old tank was the solid black anniversary edition, but the bike was knocked over in a parking lot and damaged the side of the tank in two spots. Harley will sell me a new one for 2400, but I'll pass on that. Haha
