Default 05 FXDI tank question

According to everything I can find my gas tank holds 4.8 gallons, but my low fuel light comes on after only 3 gallons used, assuming this is correct I should still have 1.8 gallons left, yes? Please help clarify as I "assume" I should get almost 4 gallons before the low fuel light turns on, thanks.

The gauges on these are not very accurate and the low fuel light will vary when it comes on from bike to bike. Figure up your MPG and you can rely on your trip odometer. More accurate than the gauge. I removed the gauge from my 06 and moved my ignition switch to the gauge hole in the console. Been 5 or 6 years without it and haven't missed it a bit.

Mine low fuel light is pretty consistent at 140 miles, do another 60 miles and put 4 gal in to fill her up. I like that better than petcock. You hit reserve and you have like a half gallon left and only 20 miles to find gas.
