Hey guys,
I've been doing some reading lately on rubber fork boots but let me ask a question that's probably kind of a stupid one. I like the look but what function do they serve? Is there any or is mostly a throwback to the chopper style? Thanks for humoring me!
Yea, mostly just for looks I think. I run em cause my bike is blacked out & the slider tubes are WAY too much shiny up front. On my dirt bikes, they kept crap off the tubes & doubled the life of the fork seals. They probably somewhat have that advantage on a street bike, but not nearly as much as a dirt bike.

This is the main reason I put them on my bike. Had a rock fly up and damage one of my fork tubes pretty good, which in turn destroyed the seal. Had to replace both, and put some fork gaiters on when I put it all back together.
I ride a lot of gravel roads in a sandy part of Texas. After the rubber dust caps wore out, I had to also replace the leaking seals. To prevent all that gravel/dust damage I added the gaitors you see below. I like the old school look as well.
Thanks guys. I can see the benefit of protecting the fork seal in the event of something happening like listed above. Otherwise my bike is getting slowly more blacked out and I really like that look. Maybe something for the future...
Don't mean to hijack but isn't there a (easy install) set that does not require removal of anything? I think I saw them in J&P a few years ago.
I don't know about that but I don't think these were hard at all. I heated the rubbers up with the wife's hair dryer and put a squirt of window cleaner in them and yanked them over.
