Long Haul on a wide glide

I am going to be the downer that says this is too long of a trip. You are the only one who can be honest to yourself and know whether you can do it on that bike.
Have you put many miles on the Dyna yet?

I know one thing: my WG has a lot more leg room than my SG. It rides better too, no ****. Once you get up to 70 it is a smooth cruiser. Think I'd have to have a shield though and a bag to lean back against. Actually, my '04 WG is better in all ways than the SG, except the tourer has a player and cruise control.

I rode a 2001 Super Glide from Houston across Louisiana and Mississippi on to Anniston, Alabama in the middle of July...last July...9 months after a triple bypass and carotid endarterectomy...
I put on a new rear tire, a Mustang Wide Vintage seat, and replaced the yellowed and crazed windshield with a new one, strapped a carry on luggage bag on the sissy bar and just headed on down the road...rode 6 hours, more or less, each day for two days in pouring rain and baking hot sunshine, traffic and open road....
I didn't worry about ****, I only thought about how much fun I was having...and I plan on making another long road trip this summer...just as soon as I decide where I am going...Sturgis or ?

Definitely test the windshield at highway speeds, if you get a lot of buffeting your trip will be freaking miserable!
If the windshield is good to go, then I would suggest what the others have, pack so you can lean back against something, or if your seat has a backrest thats even better.
Bring some tunes with headphones and slap on a Camelback to keep you hydrated and enjoy the sh*t out of the ride!
I rode from P'cola to SD, about 2K miles and had a great time. Going the more northern route you will be taking has better scenery. I recommend stopping at the Desert Lookout Tower on the 15 when you get here to Cali, pretty awesome views.

Got to have goggles or a full face helmet. I wear glasses so I use those over the classes googles. 2 pair, amber and dark smoked...they work just fine at 75 mph on the freeway behind a windscreen.
Earplugs are a must! I didn't wear earplugs to attenuate the sound, but I did wear headphone earbuds to my smartphone playing about 8 hours of my tunes...cranked up just a little.
I wore Wrangler jeans, an old HD denim vest and new bright yellow long sleeved HD jersey, military surplus steel toe boots with fingerless gloves...and a skid-lid after I crossed over the Sabine River and left the Free State of Texas...
Man, just get on it, get comfortable and kick back, and let er roll...and enjoy the ride...

I rode my street bob to colorado and back from montana going the long way around UT, ID , WY, OR , WA, ID, and back to MT. I loved the trip. Best road trip I have ever had. 80MPH all day long , no big deal. I cant imagine a wide glide would ride that much different as far as comfort goes. I do have a mustang seat for long distance comfort otherwise you should be good.
