1. Clean lower area of induction module side of backplate.
Use a mixture of 50 to 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30 to
50% distilled water. Allow to dry thoroughly. Orient adhesive
backed clip (8) with opening upwards, and afix in 6
o'clock position. Clamp wire previously removed from
original equipment backplate.
That proves nothing but how to stow an empty connector out of the way.

Do not just tie it up out of harms way!

The computer determines the ambient temperature of the air entering the intake by reading the Intake Air Temperature sensor. As with the engine temperature adjustment, the computer will look up the percentage adjustment. Lets go back to our full throttle acceleration at 3900 RPMs and assume our engine has warmed up to normal operating temperature, but the outside air temperature is 90 degrees F. The computer looks up an adjustment percentage of -2% (see table 4). The computer actually understands that at high air temperatures, the engine requires less fuel so it leans the fuel value down from 44 to 43. If the air temperature had been cold, the fuel mixture would have been made slightly richer.

This connector is only used on the international/European bikes. There is no sensor on the North American bikes for it to plug into.

orgredneck, it is actually in the Service Manual and add on back plate instructions.

Thanks guys for the input

Looked at this again

There is not any sensor attached to the clip

It is simply a wire with a male/female connector at the end and was attached to the back of the air cleaner - but it does not have any sort of sensor attached that I can see??

I have simply put some double sided tape and stuck it to the back of the new Air leaner, in position/angle as it was (but really just to get it out the way without flapping about!!) - but cant see how this is any sort of sensor at all

It is actually for a HDI model:

BACKPLATE ASSEMBLY:
HDI MODELS
See Figure 4-3. HDI models have unique backplates. These
parts may be distinguished by:

A different intake with a solenoid-operated trap door
assembly at the mouth of the intake.

An intake solenoid connector (2) on the backplate.
Perform the same routine maintenance on HDI models, but
also check that the trap door in the backplate operates properly.

Seconded. It's the active intake solenoid connector used on the European bikes. Just tie it out of the way.

It's for the flux capacitor. Your bike won't go above 70mph without it plugged in.

88mph!

Yep, had to go look it up in the service manual, too. Its the HDI solenoid wire, not the IAT wire.

Default Ufo?

So can I just cut this wire off? Instead of stowing it somewhere?
