Default V&H short shots vs. 2-into-2's

I've had V&H 2-into-1's on my last two bikes. How do the short shots compare to the 2-into-1's? I've listened to videos that V&H posted on Youtube, but you can only tell so much from a video on the Internet.

Do these two pipes sound a lot different?
How loud are the short shots compared to 2-into-1's? I've had people tell me they're about the same and others say the short shots are annoyingly loud.

I've never had the 2:1. I am currently running the shortshots and "annoyingly loud" is pretty subjective to me. I don't think the shortshots on my 08 FXD are annoying and as long as I don't rev the engine in my neighborhood I don't think I'm annoying the neighbors. There is a quiet baffle available for the shortshots too.

Short Shots are loud (and not really in a good way IMHO) and are very poor for power production with the likelihood of actually loosing usable power. I ran them once for a short period and then promptly installed a 2-1 that was also a V&H's set.

2-1's on the other hand smooth's the tone of the exhaust and if the head pipes are done right offer a very good bump in usable power without making excessive noise. I prefer 2-1's for all of those reason. Cobra's PowerPro 2-1 pipes are very nice from my experience.

I run the short shots because that was what was on it when I bought it.They are loud and like outlaw16 said 'annoying" and not good as far as performance goes.
When I get the extra money Ill be changing into a 2 into 1 system like Bassani road rage

The one thing I don't like on the V&H 2-1 is hoe the front of the pipe hits the ground before the peg. I love my short shots with the BCT baffles. Sounds mean!! If you don't wan to spend the money on BCT's here's a cheap mod for like $3.00. The BCT's or thumb screw help get some back pressure back. Oh and my short shots are a lot louder then my buddy's V&H 2-1.

I get a lot of compliments on how good my bike sounds.

I don't think they are as loud as they are claimed to be. Don't get me wrong they are loud but I was expecting more. I pulled the baffles and still ok for me. Doesn't sound worth a crap with no baffles especially when engine braking/down shifting.

Idk, thought the cycle shacks with no baffles were louder on the forty eight. This is all from the seat, may be a different story off the bike. My ears don't ring with the short shots, they did with the shacks.

Just my .02.

The short shots are louder on my buddy's nightster. Notice you can still hear his when I'm by my bike. But when I go by his you can't hear mine at all till I aim the speaker towards mine...lol!
