Default First impression on DK bear claw pegs

Well after searching and searching for a good grip peg with help from you all I decided on the DK bear trap pegs.

This is my opinion and view on them ....

First impressions they look great. Not as heavy as I would like but for $80 bucks I guess.

Instructions were good not great but as a mechanic they are easy for me to install.

Feel of the grip is great.

Cons are .... they dont lock solid, there is still play. They can move free or lock according to the directions. Now they do lock but have some play.
After removing the retaining washer like said in the directions and fully tighting I was worried to much tight would strip them. But to get them tight you have to crank on them. Well the nut is crap .. striped that dude.
Got a better nut at the store (stronger) and that did the trick.
Still not solid but good nuff.

Recomendations .... get a stronger nut that wont strip threads.

Over all looks 10
Hardwear 6 (aluminum is just to soft)

For the money they are ok but I dont feel pegs should ever be over $100 so I went with these.

Again this is my review and not my first rodeo. And I am not bashing DK at all ........ just giving a honest review

I bought, tried and returned these pegs as well, I didn't really like how chunky they looked.

I went with the Xpegs from Baxter - little more expensive but ohh so nice.

I have had those exact same bear traps on my bike for a couple years. I love them!! I keep them free spinning. I have forward controls so when I go on long rides I can just stretch my legs and rest my ankles on them. I have no fear of my feet sliding off or anything. I do wish they had all black ones. I am getting ready to paint mine black this weekend.

Man how do you keep stable when they free spin?

I have a pair too. I ran them for about two months. They do look good and the grip is great. I left them free-spinning too.

Two reasons I took them off.
1. They are wide and dragged often. I had stock suspension then.
2. The little set-screw that is supposed to allow level adjustment barely catches the edge of the mating clevis. It was digging into the clevis and left a gouge. I didn't care for that. I think a small button head screw would work better than the set-screw.

I looked at these for a bit, but finally settled on a set from Joker Machine. Had a little oil on my boot, and my foot slid right off that stock peg in the middle of a hard turn. So I was motivated to upgrade fast.

I noticed the little screw not in line also. Thanks for the heads

Side question why did you go free spin. Pros and cons

I would recommend you ride for an hour in free spin mode and then ride with the pegs in a set mode. That should give you time to see the pros and cons. I just like being able to move my feet around and stretch out on longer rides.
I think if I had mid-controls I would not like them because I would be scraping them all the time. With forward controls my heel touches the ground before the pegs so I don't scrape them.
