Default Clutch cable fray related to electrical problem?

While I was cleaning my 1998 lowrider convertible I noticed the clutch cable fraying at the clutch lever. I called my local dealer to make an appointment to have the cable replaced and he told me it is most likely due to an electrical ground issue?? This doesn't make sense to me and I can find no information relating a frayed clutch cable to an electrical problem. I have 38000 miles on my bike and have never had an electrical problem. Does this make sense, please help, id like more info before I drop my bike off

You're right, this makes no sense at all. Unless you have one of those new electric clutch cables. Just kidding.
Hope the dealer can just change out your cable, but I would have some questions about their competence after making a diagnosis like that over the phone. However, anything's possible, let us know what happens.

Welcome to the forum.

Although it's odd that they would jump to that conclusion without even looking at the bike, I do know what they're referring to. It could be just a worn out cable, but It's actually pretty common on older bikes for the clutch cable to act as a ground and melt when there's a bad or loose ground on the bike. Been a while since I've seen one of them.

I have seen it happen way to often , was working on friends bike other day and front blinkers would only work when clutch cable pulled . cleaned ground to handle bars and they worked great . I have seen a clutch cable end glow red at night like a car cigarette lighter after bike was dropped
