Default Couple of noob questions

Hey guys. Been loving my new ride and it's always on my mind. Have a couple of noob questions:
1- there is a rattlin' coming from somewhere on the bike. I would guess from the sound that it's the license plate but while riding it doesn't sound like it's coming from the back, sounds like it's right out front. And I can't find anything in front that's loose. Is there anything I should look over specifically?
2- the fuel gauge pops right out if I lift up on it. Normal? No leaks or anything just doesn't seem right, but that's why I'm asking.
3- Finally, I was coming up to the point where the fuel gauge started in on the red, so I went and filled up. Only fit 2.8 gallons in. Every time I've filled up its been this way. Didn't upright the bike or anything just on the jiffy. Is that gauge just a p.o.s? Out of the advertised 4.7, how many useable gallons are in a 2013 wide glide?

As to your third question, the guage is in fact a pos. That is to say, routinely, they are not accurate. Many/most folks guage how much gas they have left based on how many mikes they've ridden since they last filled up.

Congratulations on the new bike!

1- could be one or both of your exhaust heat shields, start by checking those
2- fuel gauge just pops out, that's normal

Congrats on the new scoot. +1 on the Heat shields, but also check your tank bolts. Mine loosened up after a few hundred miles. My first rattle was the license plate itself, only had 2 fasteners holding it and the bottom of the plate would catch the wind. Just a few things I've had rattle. Gas gauge is not very accurate at all, reset one of your trips every time you fill up, so you keep track of miles you've rode, since last fill.

Congrats on the bike. I have a '13 Wide Glide also and love it! As others have said, the gauge isn't accurate. I have a Performance Machine LED gauge and it sucks too. Just go off of how far you've went since last fill up or your "miles remaining" setting on your trip meter. My "miles remaining" setting usually says around 210 when I fill up and I refill when it's around 50 or so, at least when I'm just around town.

When I did my walk through on '13, I was informed to not purposely twist the gas gauge, thinking its another gas cap. It will break stuff and be $$$ to repair according to them. I had my walk through way after I received my bike and managed to pop it out before knowing this. Luckily no damage done due to my stupidity.

Also good to know the gauge is a POS. I'm only on my 2nd fill up, and I was thinking it was really chewing through the gas.

Congrats on the bike.
