Default HD Tune or other

So i have a new to me 2012 FXDC with stage 1 intake and V&H 3"slip ons. I am told by the stealership it has the HD stage one download installed. the problem is it seems to pop alot on Decel and every once in a while on shifting up. I know this is common with V&H pipes but it seems excessive. would it be cost effecient to get a programmer installed ie. fuelpak, power commander........ or would it be a waste of money.

you will never get it perfect weather changes, fuel changes, you can get it to run better, how much better depends on how far you want to go with tuning. I started with the xieds helped some, added a fuelpak helped a lot but there was still a little left to be had, took them off and put on a superchip ez tuner, bike is not as quick as it was, but runs smother and gets better gas mileage. the next step would be go to a top line tuner and a dyno and get it done right. everything I have tried made some improvement to a point. so it depends on how far you want to go and how deep your pockets are. you can spend from a 100.00 to a 1000.00 or more depends on what you want

I have a stage 1 with SEST in place. I have a Cobra Fi2000 piggyback unit but its not yet installed. I want to log more miles with the SEST in order to assess performance "as is". The theory behind having the tuner plus piggyback in place seemed to make sense. Its supposed to make minor adjustments automatically without altering the underlying mapping. We'll see.

My vote goes to the guys at Fuel Moto with their PV-2, easy to use, great customer service and it beats giving money to the Stealership

Mine did the same thing until I got the 103 big bore with the SE 204 cams installed. After a few hours on the dyno it runs strong with absolutely no decel popping.

I have the Cobra Fi2000 auto tuner, and have some decal popping, but I have noticed, that if I roll the throttle closed, instead of letting it close on its own, the decal popping drops to very little or none at all.

From what I know and the way it was told to me if the dealer does a stage one down load as they call it, The ecm is just flashed with another epa legal tune that is not much different from the stock ecm. So they are just blowing smoke up your skirt. If they dyno it using a full tuner that's something different.

I not trying to sell you something , But if your looking to tune your bike for your stage one then maybe the V&H fp3 is what you should be looking at. If your going to go to stage 2 or more then I would look at a full blown tuner and a good dyno guy. In the softtail forum there is a long thread on the fp3 and the guys that went with it really like them. I just ordered one myself. Good luck to you .....swifty

PS if you order from Kutter hd the fp3 is knocked down to 300 once you add it to cart

Added the FP3 2 weeks ago. So far it's been super easy to use and bike runs great with one of the V&H downloaded maps. Plan to try to start the autotune feature Sunday.
