Default bypassing an oil cooler

I am out at my cabin in the mountains and managed to punch a hole in my oil cooler. I was thinking I would just bypass it by looping the oil line from the input to the output side and riding the 200 miles home like that. Any issue with doing that?

I've done it on my Heritage with the HD oil cooler. Just used a male to male union that was the correct size to get the two hoses on. Couple of hose clamps held it together with no issues.

If anyone is curious, it took about 8 inches of fuel line and two 3/8 double male hose connectors plus hose clamps. If you have an oil cooler it might be worth keeping them on the bike. I know I will from now on

Also, make sure to tighten all the hose clamps or you will end up with oil all over your other leg like me. What a weekend

ahhh the joys of motorcycling sometimes... glad it worked out for you. How did you end up with a hole in the cooler? Rock come up and smoke it?

I will be honest. I have a cabin that is at the end of a long gravel private road and is all up hill. It has a great view and riding on gravel does not bother me really.....which is the problem. I was going way to fast and a big piece of shale hopped up and knocked a hole right in the cooler. It dumped oil for a while before I notice my leg feeling like it was on fire. I ran down to the parts store in a friends truck and bypassed it. I goofed, though. Forgot to tighten a hose clamp and so I ended up with my other leg feeling like it was on fire on the way down the mountain. Great weekend, lol.
