Default 2000 Low Rider Headlight Change

Hey guys,

New here and only riding a year. I bought my 2000 Dyna Low Rider last year and have been doing some changes. For one, I cannot stand the look of that headlight visor. I tried to take it off yesterday and found the headlight was mounted into it. Has anyone else removed this? Is there any other option than getting a top mount bracket? Not so sure I like the looks of those either. Then there is the indicator lights that are also connnected into this visor. I saw some riser clamps that I can get to resolve that if that is the only option. I am sure someone here has done this. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I have done a lower tree mounted headlight for my buddy. Drill a hole on the lower triple tree, many headlight options out there. Aluminum is very easy to drill

Headwinds makes a bracket cover that the indicator lights go in and mounts where the visor mounts.the indicator lights route back under the speedo.I done this mod a few years back and changed it all back so I could run a quarter fairing .

I just did this myself to my 98 FXDL so I can help if needed. I'll give you the steps, if you have any questions ask. Here's how I did it. Remove the tank console, unplug indicator lights, remove the headlamp and unplug it, remove the pins from the plug, once you have the wire out remove brow and indicator lights and headlight bucket. Drill the center of the tree. I went from the bottom up for more clearance and used a 90 degree drill. I picked one up at harbor freight that ran off the air compressor. It was slow and underpowered but it got the job done. I returned it after it was too weak to keep. Once the hole is drilled you just need to mount up a headlight block and headlight and wire it up. Last decision to make is for the indicator lights. I was given a piece of aluminum cut to fit the top tree, I cut and polished it to make it look like the headwinds plate, cut a hole for my indicator lights and bought new ones. When bolted up I didn't like it so I removed it and mounted a sportster chrome top tree trim piece. I drilled two holes in my console for the neutral and oil light and didn't need the rest. It's really not that hard, the hard part is picking a light you like and deciding on your indicator lights. I ended with a 2012 headlight and block. I trimmed the block a couple 8ths of an inch to get it where I wanted it. PM me or post here if you have questions.

Wow thanks for the replies and pics guys! I may reach out to you on PM is needed. Kp877, that is EXACTLY how I want my headlight to look.

Although for whatver reason, the sire won't let me view your pics anymore. I could see them all a minute ago.

I have a pic with the indicator light plate mounted too, but it's hard to see, I removed it before I started swapping the bars.

Thanks kp877. I went to the headwinds site and think I saw that one. The only thing was that my indicator has 5 LED's.. 2 Blinkers, Oil, Highbeam and Neutral I think.

The Mount had 7 holes rather than 5. What this the case with your mount? I may have been looking at the wrong one.

Mine isn't headwinds, it's just aluminum cut, its the entire stock housing that fits in there. You won't be able to see the lights they'll be behind your riser clamp.

Are you looking to save money or just buy whatever it is you need?

I would suggest you to remove front wheel/fender and use a regular drill. If you don't have skill like kp877, you can screw up aluminum easily if not drilling straight. Get a better headlight, most ebay knock off lights break at the joint, not worth it!
