180 REAR TIRE Q'S

RE: 180 REAR TIRE Q'S
Didn't like the SE 180mm tire. It lasted 6 weeks and seemed slippery. Put on a 5.5" Akront alum. rim and use Mich. Pilot soft track tires. I got 6 off E bay for $420 delivered. $85 installed. Track tires spin when cold and wheelie when hot. It is no problem to spin the tire through 5 gears when cold - GOOD FUN! and it dosen't break the bank. They also reduce tailgaters as they send a steady stream of small gravel behind you. ANTI-SOCIAL - LIKE ME !

I have been caught in the rain a few times - since I have no front fender - I try to ride on dry days. I had to do something as I spent more for back tires than I pay for gas on both my Harleys. I still need to work on tuning the St. Bob andat 100HPit already gives the rice rockets a hard time on the twisties. There is nothing on my Bob that dosen't make it go or stop faster. FUN BIKE !!!Pics. soon !

That's part of the problem - the SE 180mm has a narrow bead width about a inch narrower than a regular tire...
I didn't like the tire performance (I CRASHED 50 MPH OFF ROAD BACKWARDS) when worn. Laced up a 5.5" Akront rim with ss spokes.
Used regular sportbike tires but they cost $150 installed and lasted 6 weeks - ouch! I now run Mich. Pilot soft track tires $85 installed.
Another thing I didn't like about the SE 180mm was it had a flat profile - and makes bike hard to turn..Regular sport tires are much rounder and help bike fall into turn.
If you want to switch to a 5.5" rim - it could be done very cheap ($100) if you use steel spokes. I did not even finish my 2nd beer on the last rim I laced. I then take to a local shop for truing and rubber install.
WARNING - there will probably be clearance issues with rear brake and rim. Had to shave back of caliper and remove brake line to install - REAL PAIN ! I now use a PM 2 piece rear brake and tire changing is easy now - no more taking off brake line...Pics soon...
