I was told by an HD dealer that the primary plug is not that important when switching from mid to forward controls.. This true? No one in my area seems to have the plug and wanted to do the work as soon as possible...
that's BS the Harley forward controls have the plug in the kit,if you leave that unplugged that will allow dirt and water in your primary where your primary chain drive and your clutch pack is.
the plug in the kit is for cosmetic purposes only, the seal is the tunnel shaft gasket further in, between the inner and outer primary... they are prone to moving and leaking once the mid control shifter shaft is removed... I plugged my primary internally with freeze plugs from nappa then used the harley plug to cover the hole on the outside of the primary....

Not true. There is a ring gasket between the inner and outer primary. The plug is cosmetic only
