Default how to hard mount saddlebags with the removable sissybar?

Friend of mine has a 2011Street Bob with the HD detachable backrest. He wants saddlebags on his bike, but doesn't want throw-over bags scratching the paint, he also wants to keep the backrest detachable.

What's a good way to hard mount bags with this set-up? How does saddlebag supports work around the backrest mounts?

Any ideas are appreciated

If your bud is using rigid bags this would work.

That's how I was going to do mine but I opted on newer strong bolts and ran them from the inside out. But it is just as easy to get four bolts 2 rear and 2 front 1/2" longer and then just run them straight through the bags.. No more than 20 to 25 lb/ft of torque or the cheap piece of tim imside your fender will crack. That being said I never had a problem with a bag coming loose.

I've converted throw over bags by cutting off the yoke and then lining the inside wall with aluminum sheet. I just pop rivet them with a large fender washer on the rivet and through the bag and aluminum.

When you bolt them on like above, they are sturdy and you don't need any supports behind them.

That's a simple enough mounting kit, though im concerned for the lack of dupport rails behind the bag. I know with GOOD rigid bags, that's not an issue, but just in case, why other options are there?

I posted the answer already...line the bag and you dont need rails...

I did the same with a very large pair of Tourmaster throw-overs using EZ-Brackets. They
attach and detach in seconds, are completely stable and require no external supports.

The bags are large enough that I've mounted them higher than normal to get shock clearance
and they can be seen in my signature pic taken when the bike was set up for a 14 day ride..

I bought a pair of Viking Armour Shock Cutout bags. They come throw-over style and also come with a set of rigid mount hardware. The backside of the bags are fiberglass so they are somewhat rigid already. I used the mounting hardware along with my quick detach hardware that was already in place. I had to buy new bolts that were about an inch longer to accommodate leaving the quick detach hardware in place.
