Thumbs up Supertrapp Supermeg sounds better after removing fiberglass packing

I read a lot about how people don't like the over-muffled "pffft" sound of the Supermeg. It's true, with the closed end cap that is how I would describe the sound as well and while I LOVE the torque I get from this pipe, I don't really like the sound. Open end cap isn't really much better and there is noticeably less torque.

So I decided to try out removing the fiberglass packing around the core. I know, I know...they recommend against this because they say the large empty baffle will disrupt gas flow. Well, my butt dyno could tell no difference in performance but the sound is much improved IMO. Instead of a soft, muffled "pffft", it has a much more crisp deep bark, while being barely louder at idle. Without the packing more of the high frequencies come out, not too much but just enough. I think it sounds more like a thunderheader, but at a much more reasonable volume. Haven't noticed any negatives yet. If you have a chrome pipe it might discolor due to more heat on the outer skin of the muffler, but I have a black one so I think I'll be fine.

That's good to know, I'm looking for a good 2-1 and have about decided on the SuperTrapp.

It's built well and nothing can beat it on torque.

I just installed a SE Nightstick with Supertrapp performance core. I have the stock header with the CAT in place. I am running an open end cap with 10 discs. I think the bike sounds great, nice and deep and not too loud.

Yeah that cat will keep things pretty quiet regardless what muffler you have.

From what I have heard the CAT will also add a little back pressure, like a closed end cap. I don't know if this is accurate, but it sounds about right.

fuel moto is coming out with the remake of the white brothers E series 2 into 1 exhaust that system produced the highest torque and hp over any systems and was designed by the same man who designed the super trapp system. Im waited to see how its going to perform and sound. should know pretty soon.

My butt dyno can't tell any difference between 16disks with closed end cap and 6disks with open end cap. But I think it does sound better with open endcap. Might have to try removing the packing and running the closed setup again but it does seem to run smoother all around with open endcap

No, I wanted the best performance pipe but I also want it to sound GOOD.
