Default Relocating front signals on 2013 FXDC

I have tried searching for the answer before posting, but cannot find what I am looking for.
I have a 2013 Super Glide Custom, and will be relocating the front signals onto the front forks pinch clamp. I have the kit for mounting, but am a little confused about the wiring. I was told by someone on the web that I need to lift the fuel tank to get to the harness. I am not understanding why this is necessary. I had mini apes installed and have external wires on the handlebars. Is it possible to just remove the signals from the handlebars and mount to the pinch clamp without having to disconnect the harness? If I do have to disconnect the harness, what is that reason?
Thanks for any help......

Wire run inside the bars on a stock bike. If you already have wires on the outside of your bars, you can skip the step.

So the only reason to get to the harness connection is to remove the signal wires from the handlebars?
If that is the case, I have nothing to worry about then. Thanks for the post.

Funny thing about my bike is wires are all external from stock. When I had the mini apes installed, they could not find a set of handlebars set for internal so they just stayed with external. I was not happy about that thinking I was getting a real clean look with internals and braided cables outside. I guess it all worked out for the best for me any way. I don't mind one set of wires running alongside my handlebars.
