Default Air Filter and slip ons

Just wondering if I put an Arlen Ness big sucker and already have V&H slip ons, would it hurt to run bike stock without retuning?

When I installed my self-made 'big sucker-ish' type intake (already running the V&H 2-1 Big Radius)... I made a run of about 200 miles, nice and easy... I got 54 mpg.

Yeah, it was lean as hell... and the plugs where turning white. .. but I wanted to prove at least to myself, that when you have modified both the exhaust and intake, you need to retune the bike, or you're gonna burn something up.
