Back in the saddle - Tire Q's 2007 WG
Hi all,
Work took me away from my 2007 Wide Glide for the last few years (couldn't take it with me), but I am back home now, riding again, and doing a lot of catch-up reading on this forum.
I have a question regarding my tires...they still have decent tread life, only about 5k on the bike...but I've been told in the past that rubber deteriorates with age, even indoors, and 8 year old tires are about as old as you want to trust. Thoughts?
Either way, I might be using that as an excuse to go 180 rear, 90/90 front as I've seen others have done...as it seems like that combo would help with handling and comfort, so that leads to a couple more questions...
Looking at my existing brake wiring and the clearance on either side of the existing rear 160 and the fender, it looks like a 180 would have no trouble fitting in there with no modifications (i.e., wide tire kit) necessary. Have others found this to be the case? Along those same lines, are there any tricks necessary to go with the wider tire up front on the older models, or is it pretty much plug and play?
Finally, it looks like the only "matching" set in a bias tire I can find in those sizes (180/60-17 and 90/90-21) are the Pirelli Night Dragons which seem to get pretty favorable reviews. Would that be the way to go, or have others found better mixed combos?
Thanks, I appreciate any input, and look forward to hanging around again.
