Default Upgrading Brakes

I'm planning to upgrade the brakes on my 02 FXDWG. From the first trip home, I thought the brakes were pretty weak(came from Sport bikes). Clearly, since it was 13yrs ago it has been shuffled down the upgrade list.
I'm thinking about PM callipers with a softer pad. Or a composite Rotor (black,so cool!) and a softer pad and keep the stock callipers.
What do you think the best bang for the buck would be? I'd like to keep it around a grand so doing both mods cannot happen. If you have upgraded Brakes, what did you use and how satisfied are you? Thanks.

Single disc? You can find a brembo caliper from a newer touring bike. Pair that with a lyndall composite rotor and pad. That'll run you around $600 I believe.

Upgraded my -02 WG with PM 6-pot caliper, Lyndall pads and RC-components 13" rotor, works good.

I put a jaybrake 6 piston on my bike, was about $350 and a huge improvement over stock. I'll be doing Lyndall rotors and pads next summer, about $500 or so.

so altogether, say $850-900!

Default Up rated brakes

Here in England I used Beringer brakes.
They work absolutely fine - progressive when you need them with no sudden surprises. Superb when you need to grab a handful.
Check out a company in England called RocketBobs - Pete makes some superb parts & some tiny but excellent brakes

motorcyclist magazine Nov. 2013 >>MC garage section

they did a back to back brake pad change test on their long term 2012 switchback

changed the stock pads out for EBC double-h sintered at 15,000 miles and found on average that the new pads stopped the bike by 1/3 less distance. took them by surprise at what a huge difference those pads made!

DO NOT DO THIS! Junk *** upgrade! there is actually no upgrade going to a stock Brembo HD caliper, the pistons are the same size as your stock 4 piston, the brake is not designed by brembo, it is only built by them! it is not a true brembo! i Just did this on my bike and it is junk! even with braided lines... i was so un impressed i called brembo and the tech is the one that told me that it is a HD design just their build, he laughed when i said i was "upgrading" he said you mean lateral move not upgrade right! I can not wait to get this caliper off my bike!

I went to braided stainless brake lines & Lyndall pads on my stock front caliper. Blech. Still sucks. For reference, my last bike had dual 6-pot calipers with 13" Braketech floaters.

When I get the FLST front end built & go to a 16" front, I'm thinking hard about one of the differential bore Brembos with a 12.6" Braketech floater.
