I would buy head cooling fans first, as that is where the heat originates.

I have a Jagg 10 row low mount on mine. I run amsoil 20w50 and monitor with an analog dipstick gauge. It usually stays between 190-200.

I pieced my cooler together used a sport bike lochart cooler and then got a HD sandwich plate... powder coated the cooler, and have about $75 total into this set up... could not be happier!

you can see mine sits right behind the wheel up high on the down tubes, this allows for max air flow

American Iron Magazine just did an article on oil coolers in its latest issue. It recommends the Jag 10 row. Very good read.

I have a 2010 Dyna Superglide and without the oil cooler I would have temsp of 290 degrees F in traffic. I installed a Jagg Oil cooler and my temsp now in traffic are around 230 degrees F. I use Amsoil 20/50 oil with Red LIne Primary case oil and Red Line Transmission Oil as well. My bike also has the Paread mode turned on that kills the rear cylinder and acts like a heat sink to cool the bike down if it gets hot , but since I started using Amsoil and the Jagg cooler ( mounted vertically on frame rail ) it seldoms turns on .

I have the same lockhart mounted in the same place combined with the jagg thermostat that goes behind the oil filter. It is right there in the airflow and does the job just fine. Those old lockhart shovelhead oil coolers were a pretty good design. I figure the oil cooler and synthetic oil are the reason this bike has went almost 70,000 miles and still does not use any oil.

Your motor is an oil cooler..sitting still nothing much is going to help reduce temps without a fan of some sort

Default Oil Cooler

I beg to differ as any oil cooler sitting with engine idling is transfering latent heat to Ambient air temperature . Of course it will do a better job if the bike is moving through air at 30 mph or better , but it does transfer heat . The oil pans does it pretty much the same way but with the oil cooler it helps out . Especially in traffic. Oil running through a 4 fine cooler at idle in a 100 degree day with oil temps at 230 degrees plus will transfer at least 10 to 15 degrees to atmosphere at idle and even more at 30 mph. Dr Dave

I want to get a cooler but on the fence of what setup to go with cause I don't want to mount it low by the front motor mount (have a tool bag there that I want to keep) or verticaly from the frame (might want to install a steering dampner).

What model jagg cooler should I get to mount like Joe's using just the top bolt in the front of the bike? Should I get the auto thermostat or regular?

Thanks All

I opted for the Jagg 6-row, mounted on the left down-tube. It goes well with the look of the cylinder. Not a lot of need here in the PacNW, but our road-trips often take us to the high temps in the Southwest.
