Default How many miles on bike before stage 1?

Hey guys just wondering what the general consensus about how many miles to put on a new bike before new pipes air cleaner and tune! I have the stage 1 stuff ordered but wondering if it will hurt the bike before 1,000 miles or if I can slap it on right away and get away with it?

I had slip ons before 400 miles, was tuned with my FP3 just after 600 miles and completed stage I with the SE stage I breather just after 800 miles. The service guy said my plugs looked great at 1,200 miles for my first service.

As so as you get the parts , install them.
I bought my bike, rode it home from the dealer and installed cams, pipes and air cleaner.

Dealers by me install exhaust/air cleaner/tuners when bikes are new. I know many people who have done this and have gotten no ill effects. In a way I think it would be good to richen the fuel and cool the motor down.

My prior bike had 500 miles . . which I put on in two days (if memory serves). Geez was that a boring 2 days of riding. This bike had 2 miles on it. They actually had another bike that we were doing the paperwork on that had something like 12 miles on it that I was buying, but I saw this one rolled out on the floor in the service department while we were doing paperwork, so requested it. We did a 'soft' dyno as well after Stage 1 install . . but didn't want to push it with just 2 miles. After a month or so I took it back for full dyno.

You need to understand that Stage I just puts the motor where the guys that designed it wanted it to be before the EPA regs stopped them from building everything with Stage I right out of the plant. Stage I is good for the motor, not an added strain on it. (Free breathing with louder exhausts and a proper air fuel mixture describes my '75 Superglide right from the factory too!) So the sooner the better IMO.
