Default Fitting Road 6 Customs 16 inch z bars on my 2013 SB

Hi everyone,

I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet.

I got the bike used and it came with some 5 or 6 inch pull back risers with the stock mini apes. Absolutely hate the look of it so I've been planning to install some 16" R6C z bar apes with stock risers.

Do you guys think that the current cable setup will work? I only ask this because currently, with the pullback risers I have on the bike now, the height of the handgrips is right around 16 inches. I don't see why I'd need to extend anything if the height of the new bars is going to roughly be the same, with width being around 2 inches wider.

Wish I could upload some pics but I don't know how!

I know this type of situation has been beaten to a pulp already but I've yet to come across a setup like mine!

I think 14" bars is the tallest you can go with stock cables.

Also, when you replace the pull back risers your bars will move forward, extending the cables even further.

My stock mini apes were 10" on the 1.5" riser. I replaced them with 12" apes and the throttle cables are at their max. I have to keep my bars aligned with the fork tubes to keep some slack on the lines. If I try to push them forward at all the cables get too tight.

If it works with the riser installed, you should probably be fine. I have an 09 bob with integrated risers. I had to add a 1 " riser extension to add any aftermarket bar. I installed a 12" z bar and used all stock cables, so I'm about 3" over stock configuration. Couldn't go much higher than that. Just have to try...sometimes you get lucky, or maybe you have to only replace one cable, or reroute it.

Yeah I've been thinking that if the cables fit with the setup I have now, then why wouldn't they fit with the z bars that will be roughly the same exact height?

I understand the angle and width of the new bars will certainly be different but I guess I'll risk it. Gonna bite the bullet and order them.

If I end up needing longer cables than so be it, I'll find out as I go.
