Default Dunlop vs Michelin Commander II

Need new tires on my 2003 Low Rider. Have stock Dunlop 401's on it now with 16,500 miles. Front is dated Aug. 2002 and the rear is dated May 2004. I figure the front is an original tire. Both still have 2/32 - 3/32 of tread left.

I've been looking at the Dunlop 401's, Dunlop American Elite and the Michelin Commander II's but can't decide. I've read that the Elite is better than the 401's and also that the Commander II's are good and will last longer but then again the 401's have lasted pretty good.

Anyone change from the 401's to ether the Elite or Commander II's?

Man you need to get out and ride some. i been using Michelin Commander II's for awhile now and really like them as far as dunlops are concerned i never used there tires when i needed to replace a tire. The dunlops i have had which was always a OEM tire never impressed me.

I replaced the rear OEM Dunlop on my FXDWGI with a Michelin Commander II back in May of this year. I have nothing but good stuff to say about that tire. Handles very well, holds pressure and stops on a dime.

I got a pretty killer price online and had it installed by Indy, way cheaper than stealership prices.

Best of luck.

Never used the Commander II's but have consistently had great results with Michelin motorcycle tires over the years unlike a lot of other brands I have used. They are not usually the cheapest but always have decent grip and wear resistance. My feeling is they seem to invest more in R&D than most of the other guys do and it shows in their products.

Another option are the Metzler ME888 tires. I have the older ME880's on my dyna and they are great. I put the ME888's on my street glide this summer and they were great as well.

That's pretty good mileage for a dun-a-lap but if it were me do as I did and get the Michelin Commander II's. I recently took my bike into a indy and he checked my tires which are Commander II's and he told me I have over half of my usable tread left and I have over 13000 miles on them. Great grip IMO and needless to say they practically last forever.

Default Com II

I have had all three tires on my Street Bob, and the Michelin Commander II are what I will continue to use.

Another vote for the Commander II's.

I have a set on my shdaow 750 and love them! By far one of the best handling and wearing tires I've ran on it out of 5 different brands/ kinds. I have the factory "scorcher 31's" on my street bob, but as soon as they're slim on tread the commander II's are going on!
