Default Seat Question

I am a new HD owner so don't kill me on this

I have a 2014 FXDB Street Bob, I got a real good deal on Ebay bought a stock super glide seat for $50 (cheap way to get the wife on the back)

the seat fits and doesn't look bad my question is do I need the rubber spacers on the fender or am I ok just installing it directly ? also does the strap serve a purpose?

If you ever want to put the solo seat back on it, yes you'll need the rubber spacers on either the seat or the fender to keep from marring the paint up. Without a sissy bar of some sort your OL will want to occasionally hold on to that strap.

Just want to add to justenough2nobtr response that if you adhere the spacers to the seat, they will still leave a mark on the fender due to normal movement and vibration unless you put a piece of automotive clear protective film on the fender.

If you adhere the spacers to the fender ( like stock), then the fender won`t get marred, but looks like crap when you use only the solo seat because they are visible.

If your fender gets marred from the rubber, you could always buy a fender bib to use when you use your solo seat.

Your rear fender is metal. Get a magnetic sheet and cut it down to size. Put the bumpers on the magnetic sheet and viola! No marks and peel off when your riding a solo seat.

Not sure if it was a state or federal law (and Fed seems guilty of such a thing to me) but either a strap or handles such as on some touring bikes is required on a bike for the passenger.

No, I have never heard of anyone being hassled for such an offense; me included.

No doubt though, a crackdown on such scofflaws is around the corner! Or worse, give a chick a ride, get in an accident, she gets hurt, and her lawyers come a running and own you forever

Damn, now I've given myself nightmares
