twin cam 88 lacking power
Hey guys, I'm fairly new here. I am at an impasse. My wife has a 2002 dyna glide. It is stock except for the vance and hines slip on's with baffles removed. This bike has always run fine, starts on a dime and is jetted perfectly. I have replaced the tensioners for the cams, and installed S&S adjustable push rods and new lifters from local shop. Right now it has 2 problems. After riding and warmed, the valve train has a clack like lifters that have not pumped up. Also it is generally lacking power all of a sudden. I have adjusted the pushrods 10 ways to sundays. 4 turns as recommended and then 3 1/2 per my local guy. Either way clackity clack. Oil pressure is good as I have checked it after warmed up. I have been a mechanic for 21 years and my brain has hit a wall. I have yet to do a compression test due to no adapter for small spark plugs. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Bob

Put the baffles back in for starts. Had my slip ons gutted out and power sucked. Put some baffles in and great improvement. Engines do need SOME back pressure. My Indy welded in some washers that act as baffles and restrict the exhaust just enough to create some needed back pressure. Works well.
I added a little Lucas oil stabilizer and it helped calm some engine noise. Lucus will stick to all those parts and lube them up real good. Worth a try before tearing back Into it
So far lack of power hasn't been a issue with my 88. I just learned its a short stroke engine and needs to be wound up before it starts pulling good.
