How to get to the battery on my FLHTCU
Hi,
I'm not that good with the inner workings of my bike so I always take it to my dealer for service. But now after a long overseas trip I came home and the battery is dead. So I need to get to it and charge it but have no clue on how to access it. Grateful for any advise on how to do this as the manual offers no clue. While getting to it I plan to install battery tender kit so I can connect a trickle charger while away from home for extended periods.
The bike is a FLHTCU 2007 model

I have an '07 UGC.
Remove the seat and you'll see the battery.
Need a T40 torx wrench for the clamp.
It is a tight fit and you'll have to slowly work it out.
Disconnect the grd lead first and replace it last.
Grd lead 1st off and last on.
Before I put my battery back in, I used some 1" heat-shrink as a way to lift it out in the future. I had a spool of the heat-shrink.
I wanted something that wouldn't take up much space and was wide enough to provide good lift. It gave me a handle.

Easier removed with the lid open.
Remove the screw and be careful not to lose the nylon washer on the screw.
After the screw is out, lift the rear of the seat and pull rearward.
When you reinstall, there is a tab on the seat that the slides into a spot on the bike. If you don't get the seat on properly, the front of the seat will lift off.
The torx is for the clamp.

As a quick connection point without battery removal:
The starter has a rubber boot that covers the positive cable connection.
Slide that little cover back and presto you have (+).
For ground/negative (-) just use any bare metal..the metal clamp bolt from the slip-on mufflers works or some other non-chrome bare metal piece on frame..Please do not use rims/wheel as ground.
