Default '90 XLH883 Part/Relay Under the Seat??

Hello, what is this part under the seat?

Today I fixed a black wire running to the R-Rear blinker.
It was broken and I spliced it but the turn signals still do not work (they worked when I picked the bike up but not when I got home..

When I press the turn signal button I hear one click but that is it and I hear it in the headlight where the turn signal relay should be.

But I'm not sure what this black relay is under the seat.

Thanks,
Jim

That part is the starter relay, it has nothing to do with your issue.

Do you want to troubleshoot the turn signals?

Thank you, I must have traced the wrong wire.

Yes. I found a black wire going to the RRear turn signal cut at a past splice.
I splices it back together and all I hear is a One Click from the flasher relay in the headlight.

I'm going to pull the headlight and see if I can buy a flasher/start from there I guess.

Thanks for the help,
Jim

Don`t troubleshoot by replacing parts...

This is a very simple circuit (no electronic gizmos).

Do you have a voltmeter?

Yes I have one.

I also put a test light on the rear connectors blue wire=no juice when the button was pressed but I was limited on time so I need to do that again.

What's up w/the volt meter?

Thanks,
Jim

The best way to trace an electrical problem like this is with a voltmeter, an el cheapo unit will work fine, you can find one for about 15 bucks.

None of the signals are working?

The first thing to do is get to the turn signal flasher, and check the voltage at the terminal where the orange wire is connected.

The signals worked when I got it but here's how it went.

Hold for turn-flash about 4x, then nothing, then release, press-a few time, then nothing. After that, nothing. Did this on both sides.

Might be a bad flasher or that black wire that I spliced to the RRear bulb not completing the circuit, hence, causing the flasher to burn up ??

I'll check it out/maybe try to find a flasher and see.

Thank you again,

The black wire would only affect one bulb. It would not do any harm to the flasher.

Get to the flasher, with the ignition switch turned on, check the voltage at the terminal where the orange wire connects.

Next, while pressing the turn signal button, check the voltage at the terminal where the green wire is connected.

Ok thanks. I'll do that tomorrow.

OK fixed the turn signals-Voltage good-replaced the flasher with a 552 automotive flasher (standard, NOT heavy duty) from Auto Zone. 6 bucks.

Works fine.

Thanks for all the help,
Jim

This is the part from Auto Zone.
I tried to find a mini one but couldn't.
This one fits with no problem.
I put extra tape over both connectors (just in case) and it's good to go.

This is what was in it and it failed-China.
