Default rear brake light switch

Should I use anything on the threads for a new rear brake light switch?

Default how far to screw it in

sorry to highjack but i also just installed a new rear brake light switch and was wondering how far to screw it in. The resistance seems to increase the more you screw it in. does it bottom out? I just dont want to damage anything in there if i screw it in all the way.

It's a pipe thread. Use pipe sealant and when its snug, STOP!! Its a tapered thread. If you go all the way on, you'll break of the switch in the master cylinder or split the cylinder bore. Hit the brake hard after the install and check for leaks.

This one doesn't look like tapered threads graybeard. This is the one I'm gonna be using.

I assume I would torque this one down to whatever specs the manual calls for.

That is a banjo bolt, it is designed to be used on the master, with brass washers, not on the fitting in line.

The footbrake switch on ALL models AFIK is a pipe thread. Hand tight and then maybe 1/2 turn with a wrench.
