Default 96 FLHTCU Turn Signals UpGrade Issue

I changed the front & rear turn signals to the contemporary bullet type. (Used same bulbs from original fixtures) The "auto turn off' no longer works. Any suggestions? Pisses me off when I see people who leave there turn signals on so now I'm pissed off at myself all the time...

Could be as simple as crossed wires, or one has become disconnected.

Update: I have lost track of time & circumstances but speedo cable tang broke some +/- 6 months ago at wheel connection and just got to replacing the cable. (bike on stand and doing repairs during the winter with 2' of snow on the ground) Now back to trying to figure out why auto-signal cancelling not working. In stumbling around on the net found comments about connection between speedo and turn signal cancelling but nothing conclusive or helpful. Bike is 1996 FLHTUC with mechanical speedo/odometer. I cant remember if turn signal auto cancel stopped at same time speedo stopped. Anyone have experience? To much snow on ground to test repaired speedo cable. TIA

The cancelling feature is indeed performed by a connection between your speedo and the flasher unit (a white/green wire). So if the speedo hasn't been working, then the cancelling won't either. With your speedo fixed your cancelling should now be OK.

The distant traveled is also factored into the self cancelling "formula". If your odometer isn't reading out you have to correct that ( I'd assume ). Have you considered dirty "speed sensor"? I seem to recall reading about that having an effect in here somewhere. Good Luck.

Larry, that relates to the later bikes with fancy electronic speedos, not our charming analogue cable-driven ones!

I actually disconnected the darned thing, because the cancelling feature kept turning them off when I didn't want!

"Hyacinth Blue"??? You're not related to that 'Damn Bucket Woman', are you? If so, say Hi to Onslow (I know he & Daisy rode a Harley at some time).
