Default Rear brake light and cruise release

I have a 2008 Ultra Classic. Recently I noticed that pressing the rear brake pedal does not light up the rear brake light or release the cruise control. The front brake lever does both, so I know that the light and cruise control work. Is this a simple switch replacement? Does the same switch control the rear brake light and the cruise control release? Thanks for any help you can provide.

The rear brake light switch it inop. Simple replacement. It down on the right side of the bike, under the passenger footrest, down by the framerail. Right by the transmission side cover. There's 2 wires going to it. IT screws into the brake line.

You can test it by unplugging both wires, with the ignition on jumper the wires together, the brake light should light. If it doesn't, your problem is in the wires, not the switch. If it lights up then replace the switch.

Harleytuner, thanks a lot. This is very helpful. I'll try your test just to confirm before buying a new switch. And just to be sure, the one switch controls the brake light AND the cruise control release?

The switch controls the brake light. The brake light triggers the cruise control release in the cruise control module. But yes, if the brake light doesn't come on the cruise won't release by braking.

Thanks amkaos, and to you too Harleytuner. I replaced the switch this morning and it's working perfectly.
