That's my guess as well. I had similar issue when I changed grips. I didn't get housing that holds blinker, start and run switch on bars properly seated. It ran ok but red light on instrument panel was on.

It turns out to be an issue with the tssm. I installed one I had off another bike, and it works fine with either fob that is programmed for it. Not sure what is wrong with the original tssm.
