Battery Life

Battery Life
Hey everyone. I have tried looking through the forum for information on this and could not find anything. I have an 06 FXDLI and I am curious about the battery life. The current battery is an HD and I think it was manufactured in 2012 and I also think it may be on its last legs. I know there are tons of options out there for replacements and I will hopefully find one eventually at a good price.
Thanks in advance.
David.

If it will get you through the winter I'd wait until spring. Battery Mart has several

i seem to have hard starts especially in the morning, so i may need to make a purchase sooner rather than later, of course i did not say that in the original post. I have only had to replace a battery once on a Sportster and that may have been premature as well.

Thanks for getting back to me Vernal, just curious why you recommend waiting...

I said that thinking you'd be putting the bike up soon for a long winters nap. Our riding season is coming to a close and the bikes will hibernate until March or April so for me I'd wait until Spring for a new one. I've had good luck using a battery tender on our bikes whenever they are parked. Some disagree with using the tender but if you take the time to read the manufacturers literature, Tender and Battery, make a few calls to the same folks you'll find everyone of them recommend using a Tender.

If the bike is starting slower than normal the battery is probably on its way out. Take it to an auto parts store and they will usually test it for free. It needs to be fully charged, so charge it up, or leave it with them and they will charge it and then test it.
I usually buy mine at Battery Mart as well. The Big Crank is made by Eastern Penn, who makes the OEM batteries. It is the same spec.

Then don't hesitate to get a new battery! Make sure it is an AGM type, which give the best performance and service life. The suggestions above on a suitable brand are all you need!
