Default battery drain

I have a 07 softail custom and the battery goes low if I don't ride it. Is it normal to always be able to see the odometer reading even with the key off? Has anyone had this problem?

the odometer should not stay on however if you push the odometer reset button with the key off it will display information then go off. If it's staying on, I would first disconnect the odometer reset switch to see if it stops displaying information with the key off.
You can take a digital meter and with the odometer reset switch disconnected, test it for continuity.

I doubt if there is a single fix, so follow Ultra's suggestions above. Chasing electrical problems is often actually looking for a mechanical problem, in other words a damaged wire, faulty connector, bad ground, etc. To chase such things it helps to have the electrical diagram in the FSM, so you can check, for example, which fuse feeds power to the problem area. If having removed the appropriate fuse the speedo display goes out, at least you have isolated where the problem lies.

Disconnect the positive battery terminal and put a multi-meter in amp mode connecting one lead to the positive battery terminal and the other to the connector that is usually hooked to the battery. If you have a draw or more than .1 A you'll need to do some digging. Leave the meter connected and pull one fuse at a time until the drop goes below .1A below .05A is ideal. That will narrow it down to which circuit. Then you need to start disconnecting each item on that circuit (after putting the fuse back in) to eliminate it down to which component. It's all about narrowing down variables and always test, don't guess, or assume.
