speedo+tach vs original fuel gauge

Default speedo+tach vs original fuel gauge
Got a new Speedo / Tach Combo part no 70900071 installed, it has a built in digital fuel gauge, and now i want to remove the original FG, but if i do this the Speedo/Tach fuel Gauge stops working. Any ideas? thanks!

My bike is a 2008 Fat Boy
