challenge only for the brave. over my head with xl
thank you in advance for your input. my cousins 2002 sportster.
symptoms are
intermittent headlight
intermittent turn signals
brake light stays on, goes to tail light when hand brake switch is pressed
foot brake does not affect tail light
weak horn
what works
oil, neutral, hi beam dash lights
tail light
turn indicators in the rare case that the turn signals actually work
starts and runs perfectly
my assumption was ground, started at battery ran thru it all. solid connections, good wire. moved to hand controls. undid both sides. wires are a little beat up but always are in there. pulled out all the switches fingered the wires could not get any change in the symptoms. unhooked rear wiring harness no change.
I then go to the 6 pin plugs feeding the hand controls (22 and 24 on my fxdl, not sure about on the sporty) and got different readings on each side. I think this tells me more than I can decipher.
left side
orange/white 11.93v
yellow no voltage open line continuity test
blue 11.92v
yellow/black 2.0 continuity test
white/purple open line continuity test
white 14.4 continuity
all seems within reason
right side
orange/white 11.94v
red/yellow open line continuity test
grey 11.93v
black/red 81.1 continuity test
white/brown 186.1 continuity test
white/black open line continuity test
not so reasonable.
the results were the same weather the other plug was plugged in or not.
all readings were taken at either 20vdc or 200ohm continuity.
any input would be great, and I will make sure she knows who helped get her on the road
