Do I have to completely remove my tank to access and disconnect the headlight bucket (assembly) connector?

The manual says to "Loosen the fuel tank" to gain access to the connector, but it also hyperlinks to the section for completely removing the tank.

Can the tank be raised or pivoted far enough to gain access to the connector, or must the tank be completely removed?
