Default Cruise Control operation?

Have this new to me 2007 Ultra. Also my first experience with cruise control on a motorcycle. Just want to know if what I am experiencing at engagement is normal or do I need to have it adjusted. If I release the throttle as soon as I actuate the set switch there is an immediate slack off of the throttle and then it comes back to the set position. Results in a somewhat uneven application of the cruise control, however if I hold the throttle at the set position for a few seconds and then release it there is no jerking. I assume by holding the throttle in the set position it allows the stepper motor to take up slack in the cruise cable. So the question is, is this the way it is supposed to work? Is this normal or am I being too fussy?

I'm on my fourth Harley that's had cruise control. All of them have operated exactly as you describe. I've learned to be smooth in my operation of the cruise control. Like everything else on a Harley -- smoother is better.

Thanks for the answer. I was just thinking the engagement should be somewhat less "jerky" without necessary input from the rider to make the engagement a smooth transition.
