How's everybody doin ? I have been using the search forum for awhile now, but am still coming away confused. I am not the most mechanically inclined person so please bare with me. My bike is a 2008 Street Glide, stock head pipes with Bassani Megaphone slip-on mufflers, Screaming Eagle Stage 1 intake/filter and the Screaming Eagle Super Tuner. I have been thinking of doing some upgrades in the near future but am not sure what route to take. I am not looking for a full out rocket ship, just some good improvements over what I have, and maintain reliability. I have been to two local Indy shops and they both recommend the S&S 510 w/gear drive. I have heard a lot about these cams, but many are saying that in the 2007 and newer bikes we don't need the gear drive due to improvements in the chain system. My other choices I have been looking at are the Head Quarters HQ 500 TC, Andrews 26, and the Woods 6. I don't have to tell you what my dealer recommends, but all of these choices and I am wondering if it makes any sense to just to a HD 103 with SE 255 Cams ? I know a lot of people here are'nt too fond of the Screaming Eagle parts but what's a guy to do ? I just found out that Doug at Head Quarters doesn't do installs at his faciltiy, this would have been great for me as he's only a two-three hour drive from me. Anyone please feel free to offer any advice on the cams I have mentioned or the 103 kit from HD. Sorry for the long post fellas....

Indy is right, no need to go gear drive with the new setup. I would steer clear of the SE kit. If you can change your oil and are mechanically inclined in the least, buy a manual for your bike and you can do the tear down and install.
Of the cams you listed, I would say the woods 6. Not a lot of cams that will come on hard down low, and hold power up to 5500-6000rpm. What you should do is get on the phone with a REPUTABLE builder and see what they suggest. If you are even considering the woods, you should do yourself a favor and speak to Scott at Hillside Cycle, they have been running the Woods for A LONG TIME.
The HQ 500 cams will perform as well if not better than the Woods 6, pulls hard down low and will not run out of steam to the 5600 rev limit. I know Ryanl is a big proponent of the Woods cams, and I have run them in the past, but am wondering if he has ever run a HQ 500 or HQ0034?
Anyway, the HQs are great cams, less agressive ramps which means quieter running and add real nice performance gains. I am not knocking the Woods 6, but there are alternatives.
Also, I am not sure where you are, but if you want, drop me a PM with your location, we might be able to do something about the install.

Nope, I have direct experience with the Woods6. Only reason why I suggested it. Heard people complain of the woods cams being noisey, my 6 not so much. Lined up next to my fathers 08, side by side (minus the gear whine) almost no difference in valve train noise. Perhaps, these guys are running some of the higher lift offerings? Anyhow, Definately more than one way to get around the barn. Heard good things about the HQ but never ran them personally.
BTW Dalton, what cams you running in that build of yours?
All of the cams mentioned are good choices. My pick for across the board power would be the 54 for lower (10 to 1) compression or the 67 for higher compression. The HQ will work about as well with the 1.725 exhaust rocker arms.

I am running HQ 575's. Dont get me wrong, again, I am not knocking Woods cams, as I have run many of them, but they do have aggressive ramps. I ran the 400-6 .650 lift in my 103, but pulled them as I could not get used to the addtional valvetrain noise and no amount of adjusting would get the to where I liked. The current 575s are very quiet.
