SE Heads
|
Does anyone know what the main difference is between the SE MVA heads and the SE 110+? Besides the MVAs being CNC ported. Springs and valve sizes seem equal. How much of a difference in performance could you expect?

The MVA's flow substantially more than the 110+'s , I have been told that they will outflow the 295 cfm that SE uses in their flow charts, that they will flow 300-305 out of the box. Thats roughly 50 cfm more than the 110+'s that flow at 245. That's 20% more. Used in a proper engine combination these (MVA) heads work very well.

As gtrracer points out, flow is the difference. The MoCo claims ithe increaed flow is the result of the CNC porting and the "right size" 98cc port volume.
Personally, I don't see the relativity of the flow numbers as there is no baseline to compare the SE claimed flow against the flow numbers of aftermarket heads. There are so many variables that can affect flow data, like the flow bench itself, the intake fixture used, etc. that unless heads are all flowed on the same bench, same intake fixture, etc., it is impossible to compare the SE claimed flow numbers with flow numbers of say, a ported OEM head.
The last sentence in gtrracer's post is most important "Used in a proper engine combination these (MVA) heads work very well". it is hard for me to believe that either the MVA heads at $1400 pr the 110" heads at $1150 are worth the investment when there are aftermarket options to port your OEM heads for half that price that more than meet most requirements for a street build. But that's JMHO.

Thanks for the responses. I’ve been looking at the SE 103 stage IV kit. I see some postings on it. Most guys said to up grade to the MVA heads. The cost of porting heads in Canada is quite expensive. The overall cost of this kit seems reasonable.

Understood. You might want to consider a cam change as well; take a look at the 259E. A little earlier intake close, not quite as much lift and a little shorter duration. JMHO but might be a better and more "rideable" profile. Not speaking from experience, just comparing the 259E profile with the 260 profile; take a look and see what you think.
Use a .030" Cometic MLS head gasket when going back together.

Depending on the bike in question to be fitted with the "kit" the 259e's would be a great choice. I used the 251's in an 103" 08 FLHX when SE had them made for the 07 and later bikes, before they started making the "e" series, these are nearly identical to the 259e profile with a 1 degree earlier intake valve close. If you can't get the dealer to swap, let me know.

Great info. I'd be installing it in a 2009 FLHX; I do some 2 up riding. The cam swap makes good sense, I would like it to come on a bit sooner. I'll see what the dealership will do for me.

A flea-bay take-off 110" casting re-worked here,(read, inexpensive casting cost) will roll off at/near 310.
That support a rockin' 124"er.
