Default Upgrade Order for New Ride

Ok...

I'm taking delivery of my '05 standard EFI next month and I'm wondering how I should proceede with the inevitable upgrades.

I want to put V&H Big Shots staggered (or similar) on the bike and get the stage 1 upgrade done as well.

What is the best way to proceede?

1. Get the bike, ride it and do the stage 1 upgrade myself using a DFO or similar to enhance the EFI. Then add the pipes later.

2. Get the stage 1 done at delievery with a HD remap for the EFI and add the pipes later with a DFO or similar, building on the HD remap

3. Wait and have it all done by the HD dealer and don't worry about using a DFO or similar

Of course, there is a lot of cosmetic stuff that I will do eventually too, but my first goal is to get it running good.

What are you thoughts?

I'm open to any suggestions.

I cannot answer in terms on how or who should do the remapping/tuning.
I will say that your choice in the staggered "may be" a good one.
I've had way less than satisfactory results with the bigshot shorts.. However, the staggered has the crossover.
In reference to V&H's, I've been told by mechanics, parts people, V&H themself and riders alike..

Their best performing exhaust is the 2 into 1.
- Unconventional from the drag pipe look.. Yes.
- Unconventional from the cracky drag pipe sound.. Yes, also.
- Best horsepower numbers and I'll bet, relatively good torque numbers as well.

What I did... traded BigShot Shorts for a set of stocks off of a SE fatboy.. Performed AWESOME!! but soooo quiet...
So now they're on a shelf gathering dust (anybody want them? good exhaust!)

So I went with a set of Rineharts and they sound like not unlike a herd of vikings coming to town to pillage!
And perform.. well.. Like Rineharts (a very good thing)

Good luck!

I've heard that as well.

I'm pretty much set on a 2in1 design, and I really like the look of the stagered pipes on the standard.

Python has the same pipes that have "fixed" tips that look nearly as good in my opinion. I also read some place that they are actually manufactured by V&H for Python. Don't quote me on that though.

I thought the Pythons were actually were the same pipe as well by V&H.
So we both may be right or wrong.
The staggereds do look good on standards.
I've seen all three, staggered V&H's, 2 into 1's and Rineharts on standards..
The drags do look cool.
The 2 into 1's (Pro Pipe HS) I've seen on some customs and on fatboys like mine.. Look really good on the FL's like mine.

Ok... I'm still a bit confused on this... my appologies.

Lets say that I get the Stage 1 intake and a remap/download done before I pick up the bike.

If I want to change the exhaust later on from the stock, will that be a new remap/download from HD, or is it the same one?

I still plan on going with the pipes above eventually, and I get a discount on anything I get with the bike on delivery.

You should not need to remap if you are not changing the exhaust. In general the opinions seem to be if you only change the exhaust without changing the A/C, no remap needed. If you change the A/C without changing the exhaust , no remap needed. Changing the A/C without changing the exhaust will not get any more flow out of the bike, no remap needed, changing the exhaust without changing the A/C will not get any more flow into the bike, no remap needed. It is hard to create an additional lean condition (to an already lean bike) if you don't get more flow in and out.

I have a 05 FLSFTI Annv. only changed the exhaust to SEll Slip on , no remap runs great.
