Default Head Work or Big Bore

Looking for some input/advice. Stock 99 Softail Custom. 80" 1340. S&S Carb.

Looking to do some engine work over the winter:
-Port and polish the heads & install a cam, keeping the stock displacement
-Big Bore kit (88"?) & install a cam

Any thoughts on either route? Other ideas? Pros & Cons?

Thanks in advanced.

It depends on what your style of riding is, what is your common usage of the bike, and how much money do you want to spend.

I'm probably looking around $1500, on the higher side.

I'd say 40% highway & 60% city/secondary rodes riding. The city riding is pretty hard and not super high speeds. Would like to get the low end torque, slide of the seat feeling.

Andrews EV-3, or Wood 6 and our Stage I Heads would put a big smile on you face.
Dyna 2000i ignition would be a good addition as well.
If pulling it down yourself, you'd be well withing you budget.

Thanks for the input.

I went down to the shop today and got recommended to just drop in a EV27.

Is there any real difference between the EV27 vs EV3 vs EV13. Would one benefit more depending on the other motor work that gets done?

Thanks.

If wanting more later, then hands down, no question whatsoever, a Wood 6.
Scott
Just dynoed one we recently built for a client from northern NY state.
85 hp, 92 ft lbs with the Wood 6, Wiseco pistons, our Stage I Heads.
Broad, smooth power once set up like that.

Yep, Rosa's tuned off one of our's a while back with the same/same set up that posted just a tick more.
That one had a E carb that was Thunderjetted.
If wanting to step into the deeper end of the pool, then a Wood 8 @ 10.8 cr, with our Stage II Heads will show 95/95, and have one(of several many we've built) in Lyon's Falls, NY, that followed our recipe to the letter, and we tuned it off at 99 hp and 98 ft/lbs, sae.
1990 FXR with 3.37 gearing.
50 plus mpg, and he drives it everwhere.
