Default SE Big Bore Stage 1 Kit

I recently purchased a Softtail FXSTi and was told it had a SE Big Bore Stage 1 kit. I was wondering if there was anyway to tell if this kit was installed.

Thanks in advance.

You failed to mention model year, so I assume pre-07.

First thing; let's get the lingo straight. Stage I is exhaust and air filter; Stage II is big bore.

Check compression. 95" should show about 180psi; 88" will show about 165psi.

Or, pull cam chest cover; typical dealer install Big Bore kits will include the SE203 cam set and you can read the cam nose to confirm.

Run a check on the VIN; if dealer installed, it should show up.

You sure?

I might be wrong but I thought stage II was cams,
I thought big bore kits were stage III or IV

You can call it whatever you want; won't argue. However, according to the SE Performance catalog, a Stage II kit to upgrade from 88" to 95" includes bigger bore and cams.

My point to the OP was that there was no such thing as "Big Bore Stage I".

I apologize for not specifying the model and year. It's a 2004 Softail Standard FXSTi. I was told the same regarding the Stage I kit from my father-in-law but when I Google the part number from the parts quote it shows up as SE Big Bore Stage I Kit. The part number is 29774-02B. I don't believe they sell this kit anymore.

I will take your advice and call the dealership that installed the kit and hopefully they can help me.

Thanks for the responses.

The 29772-02B kit is piston and cylinders only, no air filter and no cams. You are right, since the 88" motor no longer exists, that kit has become obsolete and replaced by the 29492-99D SE Pro Stage II kit that includes pistons, cylinders, air filter and cams for the '99-'01 models; 29859-04C and 29775-02C for the '02-'06 models.
