Default Lower gears or mild cams ???

14 Softail with stage 1 kit and tuner. Looking for a bit more acceleration. If you were doing only one would you go with. Lower gearing or mild cams? Just cannot make up my mind on this and will only be doing one or the other. I ride on back roads in the Blue Ridge Mountains with very little highway.

I wouldn't gear it,as you`ll be sacrificing top end. do a mild build to the motor.that`ll give you acceloration

Default 6spd trans

So if your running a 6 speed trans with a final drive of 2.79:1 it wouldn't hurt to change the final ratio a bit with a bigger rear pulley but you'll probably have to change the belt as well, its a reasonable price change. There are calculators on line to help you get what you want based on what u have..

You can make a 2 tooth count change w/o a new belt. Stock gearing on these 6 speed bike SUCKS.....they're freakin turds!

First I did the front 30t from the stock 32t, which I had to then pull the wheel back. Incredible upgrade for the money. You can actually make the 6th gear semi useful.

Then I decided on adding the 70t rear and WOW.... Freakin awesome!!!!! Torque feel is just night and day from stock.

At 80mph I'm at around 3,200rpm.

If you go with the Evolution Industries 30T front engine sprocket, you'll land up with a final drive ratio of 3.165:1. You will still have an accurate speedo and it's much less work. Best bang for the buck mod you'll do. If you think it's too high( a 5 speed is 3.15:1) then you can always add a 64T sprocket to the wheel
and bring it down to 3.07:1 (3120 rpm at 80mph)

Now if you were to do the cams too..........................
