Default 91 sportster front rod bearing

I'm looking at a 91 sportster that ha a bad rod bearing. If I buy it, could I just replace the rod bearings and be done as long as there's no damage to the top end?

Depends why the bearings are worn. If the engine has a very high mileage then the whole engine will need or benefit from an overhaul.

It had 37500 in it. The guy is asking 950, but I working on getting it for 700. This will be my fort time rebuilding an engine, but I'm very mechanically inclined, and a jet engine mechanic. If I end up getting it I'll grab the original service manual and get to it. I'll post the outcome on here later tonight.

Sounds as if you're the right man for the job, just be aware there may be other things inside that will need attention.

Some of those in that era came from the Moco with soft crank pins.
If that male rod bearing hogged into the pin, and/or harmed the hardened rod rollers as well, there is beaucoup' debris that has been scattered thru that like a hail storm.
Good thing your getting it on the cheap.
Might as well balance those wheels when going back togather.
