S&S HP103 as a drop in

if you want more on top........
Then do the 57, it will also be a good cam for future upgrades, ie. Heads, pistons etc etc.....likes compression......

I've been thinking about pulling my woods 555 and trying the mr103. I'm just concerned about the high lift on stock springs. I know stock spring can handle it but for how long? It looks like a really good cam. Did you do heads when you did cam? Do you have any concerns about the high lift?

I don't know where you think the 57 needs compression. A small bump with .027-.030 hea gasket is it. Cam is worthless after 10:1 and 10.25 is pushing it to the far limit. Cam is designed as a stock bolt in with the factory compression 9.6:1. If I decide to big bore later and run anything over 10:1 those cams will be replaced. This is direct from Gary @ Andrews, The King if Cubes, and Axtell when I looked at getting jugs bored to 107". Decided to get my $ out of them 1st. My .02¢ is pick a cam for your current set up or wait and get cams when doing more work and let the builder guide you to what's best for work to be performed.

Pretty late intake close on the hp103... Bet it would like a good bit of compression. Looks like a good 107" 10.5:1 cam, thats why I cant figure out why the S&S tech guy told me this cam is a drop in for a 103. A stock 103 with this cam would be a turd in low rpm's and the springs would be pushed to the limit when you hit high rpm.

103 or 107 with 10 - 10.5 compression would be a winner. The hp 103 only has 575 lift. That is not a concern for the springs. It takes a pretty good build and some $ to have the best of both worlds, low end torque and a high end hp runner. To be honest with you i dont feel im lacking on the top end at all. All the hype about the hp # at 6000 rpm is overrated but a good solid 2500-2800 early pop on the torque that runs out 3000 rpm or a little more is where its at. The mr will easily handle more compression up to a max of 10.5 per s and s too add headwork a even better, alot like the 57, sand s 570, cyclerama 575 ect ect. Whatever you go with post your results and sheet , im interested to see how your ride turns out. Just curious .....you sticking with those pipes?
