Another Oil Pressure Question
UPDATE: Nevermind, figured it out. Short in the sensor wire.
Ok, so I have some quick questions that I think I already know the answer to but I want some other opinions.
First, the oil idiot light on the the speedo, I'm assuming that it's tied in with the oil pressure sensor? Is that the only place it gets it's reading from?
Second, Does the light come on at all if the sensor is unplugged?
Here's the deal.
02 Road King, EFI. Just put in bigger cams, bearings, lifters, oil pump, cam plate and a Power Commander. Riding on Saturday, I put about 300 miles on it. Right before I got home, the oil light started flickering. It was more constant when idling. I got it home, checked the oil which was good. Let it sit until Sunday.
Started it Sunday, oil light was functioning normally. It came on with the key, and went out after it was running. Took it for a ride and about a mile down the road, the light blipped real quick. Another half mile and it did it again. By the end of the 2.5 miles, the light was flickering on and off the way it did the day before.
Monday, I removed the sensor and plugged in my oil pressure gauge. Cold pressure was 38 psi at idle and 65 psi at 2000 rpm's. I took it for a ride and put on about 3 miles with the gauge on. Once it was hot, idle pressure was about 28 psi and 2000+ rpm pressure was between 55 and 65 psi. Oil light never came on at all (because it was obviously unplugged?).
I let the bike sit for a few hours. Went back out and started it up, oil pressure was the same as before but this time I noticed the light was flickering on and off like it had the prior two days before. The oil pressure gauge is still in it, the sensor is out and obviously not plugged in.
So what is making the oil light flicker on and off if the sensor isn't plugged in and the oil pressure is steady? lol
Anyways, if this is a duplicate I apologize. Any help would be much appreciated.
