oil pan removal
1997 road king
My oil drain plugged stripped out so I tried the over sized drain plug but now it keeps dripping it could be that I'm scared to strip it out. I am thinking about replacing the oil pan. Is this a difficult job? I have read it can be removed from the front? I also read there is a spring that needs to be removed on the inside of the pan. Is what I have read true?
Thanks

We weld those, and drill/tap back to the OE thread size.
Must've done 3-4 dozen of those now.

IIRC, there EVO oil pan is not baffled like the TC oil pan which is baffled and the baffle is held down by two pretty strong springs in the front and rear of the baffle. I can tell you from experience that the R/R of an early TC oil pan is a major PITA. When I pulled the pan on my '02 FLHT, I sprung for the later non baffled pan which was breeze to install and will make future R/R, if ever, also a breeze.
Not familiar with EVOs but I doubt the pan can be removed from the front and will have to be removed from the rear. If your frame cross member has not been bent, the pan should R/R from the rear and perhaps the motor may have to be raised a tad not so much for the removal but to facilitate the replacement.
Go to Ronnies Parts Finder and take a look at the pan for the EVO and the TC and you can see what I am talking about.

It's not a difficult job if you refer to a factory service manual! You'd be much better off reading that, then once you have removed your pan Scott can repair it for ya! You can see a breakdown of the parts involved on this website.
